With a rich interdisciplinary background, Dr. Ashwini Chhatre's work sits at the nexus of governance, economic development, and environmental protection. Holding a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University, Prof. Ashwini brings over two decades of research and practical experience, focusing on the intersections of democracy, environment, and development. His journey has taken him from the University of Delhi, where he earned his BA in Economics, through significant roles as a community organizer and social activist in India, to an acclaimed academic career in the United States and then back to India in 2014.
At the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, Prof. Ashwini's leadership as the Executive Director of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy is complemented by his impactful research on decentralized forest governance, climate change, and multifunctional agriculture. His scholarly contributions include serving as the founding Editor-in-Chief of World Development Perspectives and Senior Editor of Conservation Letters, alongside publishing influential works in top-tier journals and a book that spans household to global analyses in environment and development.
