Saatdhara Tribal Women Jungle Producer Company Holds Its First AGM in Lahaul & Spiti District, Himachal Pradesh

In a significant step forward for women-owned enterprise in the remote Himalayan region of Lahaul & Spiti district, Saatdhara Tribal Women Jungle Producer Company successfully held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 19 April 2026 in Tindi village, Udaipur block.

The meeting was attended by 40 shareholders — a strong turnout, particularly given the challenging weather conditions on the day. The Board of Directors independently prepared and presented all agenda items, leading the discussions without external facilitation — a clear sign of the confidence and ownership they have built over their collective enterprise.

Overview of the AGM

The meeting brought together key aspects of the company's journey to date, offering shareholders a comprehensive update on how the enterprise has taken shape.

Directors walked members through the company's formation process, its governance structure, and the leadership roles within the organisation. On the financial front, shareholders were informed that a total of ₹7,300 has been collectively deposited as share capital, with each member contributing ₹100 as their share for a community-owned enterprise.

Key compliance milestones were also presented, including the Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum of Association (MoA), Articles of Association (AoA), Permanent Account Number (PAN), Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN), and the auditor selection letter. Updates on Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration and Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) registration were shared, alongside a discussion on the legal and regulatory framework within which the company operates.

A particularly grounding conversation centred on the identification of Seasonal Forest Products (SFPs) available in the surrounding landscape — Kala Jeera (Bunium persicum), Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), Walnuts (Juglans regia), Hazelnuts (Corylus spp.), and Rosehip (Rosa spp.) — and their potential for planned, sustainable trade.

Planning for the Season Ahead

The concluding remarks of the AGM reflected a clear-eyed, practical approach to building the business from the ground up.

New Producer Groups will be formed in the Tindi region and Miyad Valley, with Directors and shareholders committing to hold village-level meetings to drive this expansion. Field mobilisation for onboarding new shareholders will be led by the Directors themselves.

The President and Secretary will focus efforts on the Miyad Valley and Nalda region, where Sea Buckthorn collection is expected between September and November, with plans for a demonstration sale during this period. Data on Rosehip availability — another promising SFP with a September collection season — will also be gathered across these locations. In the Tindi area, shareholders will focus on documenting Kala Jeera availability to support future sales planning.

Saatdhara Tribal Women Jungle Producer Company’s first AGM is more than an administrative checkpoint. It reflects the potential of grassroots enterprise rooted in women's leadership, ecological knowledge, and collective ownership — in one of India's most remote and resource-rich landscapes.
