Multistakeholder partnerships for building an Inclusive Forest Economy
A successful multi-way partnership can potentially benefit 200 million people, denting poverty at a scale not seen before. However, this requires much more than industry-community partnerships. The initiative on Forest Economy will facilitate multi-way partnerships between government, industry, civil society, academy, and forest communities for ensuring sustainable forest management and livelihoods.
An open call…
Our ambition is to foster an environment in which a sustainable and inclusive forest economy could flourish. This requires a multi-way engagement between the diverse set of actors ranging from the forest communities, government, industry, civil society, academy, and consumers. The common cause of strengthening the forest economies promotes this multi-actor engagement. Currently, our efforts are directed towards seeding this engagement by providing a common platform to these diverse groups of actors. We expect that an engagement between these actors would contribute towards secure tenure rights of the forest communities, establish sustained market linkages between the forest communities and businesses, create incentives for sustainable value chains of the Seasonal Forest Products, and generate technology-based solutions to increase productivity and inclusivity at the local level.
We value the diversity of knowledge, and perspectives. Everybody is welcome. All hands on deck!
If you are a government entity, corporate entity, academic or research institute, civil society organisation, or media house, excited about our work and vision, and want to partner with us, feel free to express your interest.

We seek to hire a specialist to handle digital communications for the Forest Governance Initiative. They will manage content of the Forest Governance website, and its social media handles. They will be responsible for monitoring performance with SEO, update and keep track of the content on the website and social media handles.
The initiative on Forest Economy at Indian School of Business leverages synergies between public policy goals, statutory provisions, private sector engagement, and market opportunities in India’s forested landscapes. It engages forest dwelling communities through their collective ownership over forests and empowers women’s groups through bank linkage and entrepreneurship to create long term potential in forest-based livelihoods, jobs, and incomes. This initiative promotes women’s collective enterprises in rural areas to ensure a sustainable supply of raw material to industry.
We have a three-pronged approach: First, we will build and optimize linkages between major corporate buyers for industrial raw material and local communities with secure tenure rights. Second, we will facilitate institutional and technological capacity building of communities. Third, we will design incentives and institutions for market engagement to lead to forest conservation. This vision will contribute towards meeting India’s global commitments for sustainable development. The success of our vision depends on partnerships with governments, businesses, and civil society. We have several active collaborations in Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra.
We value diversity in the workplace and encourage women and minority candidates to apply. Interested candidates should send their CV and a Cover Letter describing their suitability for this position to email@example.com.
